Chicago, November 1, 2006 — Windy City Queercast, Windy City Media Group's podcast show directed towards the gay and lesbian community, enters November with a bang. High-profile guests continue to join hosts Amy Matheny and Peter Mavrik, helping to move the Queercast into one of the fastest-growing web radio programs in Chicago's queer community.
November will feature riveting interviews with Judy Shepard, mother of the slain gay student Matthew Shepard, to talk about the honoring of The Laramie Project and Get Out The Vote. "Judy Shepard has gone from being the mother of a slain young man to the mother of us all" said host Amy Matheny. "Her activism is tireless and seems to be fueled by a rawness that still exists eight years after Matthew's death."
Also featured in November will be lesbian comedian Suzanne Westenhoefer, who has been seen on HBO, LOGO and Bravo. Suzanne dishes about why GLBT comedians aren't booked on network late night shows, how it was to be a "pioneer" in gay comic industry and why she doesn't think enough gay people are supporting LOGO TV.
The show is now a twice-weekly format, which covers a variety of subjects from entertainment, politics, horoscopes, celebrity interviews, movies and music to breaking news in the gay and lesbian community worldwide.
The schedule of guests is all about variety and Amy and Peter have a month full of diversity from Shepard and Westenhoefer to composer/lyricist Andrew Lippa ( the Wild Party ) , the cast of DRAG ( Neo-Futurists ) , as well as election coverage with the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund.
Windy City Queercast is also launching queercast parties to get the word out about the show, and also sign up subscribers who can get the show weekly in their e-mail boxes to download to their MP3 players for free. The month of November will feature two Queercast parties at two locations on the same night: Friday, November 17. One show will be the Suzanne Westenhoefer Comedy Concert at Circuit Nightclub, 3641 N. Halsted at 8 pm hosted by Amy Matheny; and the other will be a rock show at Jackhammer, 6406 N. Clark, called The Flesh Hungry Dog Show, which will be co-hosted by Peter Mavrik. More information can be found by emailing WindyCityMedia@aol.com .
"Podcasting, or in our case Queercasting, allows GLBT voices and stories to access people nationwide and around the world," said co-host Amy Matheny. "With queercasting, listeners can hear us anytime they are on their computer by simply clicking a button."
Other regular contributors include "Lenox the Intern," Jerry Podder's Picks with Jerry Nunn on hot events, Neil Paris of New World Astrology bringing a queer slant to the stars, Richard Knight, Jr.'s Knight at the Movies, headlines with Windy City Times' managing editor Andrew Davis, and weekly pint-sized political pundit Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre, who has two dads, from the Chicago company of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee ( as portrayed by actress Christine Werny. )
