A Milwaukee fundraising executive will become the first openly gay official in the Bush administration, directing the Office of National AIDS Policy, the Washington Post reports.
Scott H. Evertz, 38, will join four other full-time staffers in the office this month. Part of his job will be to expand the mission of the office to include international concerns.
President Clinton founded the office in 1994, and Evertz will be its first openly gay director.
Evertz is president of the Wisconsin chapter of the Log Cabin Republicans, and he was one of the gay GOPers to meet with then-presidential candidate George W. Bush last year.
He will report to domestic policy adviser Margaret La Montagne, the Post reported.
