Both of the openly gay candidates for 44th Ward alderman have received key endorsements.
Ald. Tom Tunney received news that he is endorsed by the national Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund, which is also backing attorney Rick Ingram. Both men, meanwhile, have also received the backing of the Independent Voters of Illinois-Independent Precinct Organization.
For both the Victory Fund and IVI-IPO, these were rare dual endorsements.
Openly gay 49th Ward candidate Michael Harrington did not get IVI’s backing—they instead chose incumbent Joe Moore. They also went with incumbent Helen Shiller in the 46th—but with Rev. Paul Jakes over Richard Daley for Mayor.
Chicago Professional Networking Association will host a 44th Ward aldermanic debate on LGBT issues Wednesday, Feb. 5 at the Bailiwick Theater, 1229 W. Belmont, 7-9 p.m. event—seating is limited.
