The man who is believed to have bombed several targets, including a gay bar and two abortion clinics after he allegedly placed a bomb at Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park in 1996, has been captured in North Carolina.
Eric Rudolph, 36, has managed to hide from police since that July 27, 1996 first attack. In January 1997 and January 1998, he bombed abortion clinics. On Feb. 21, 1997, he allegedly exploded a nail-laden device at The Otherside, an Atlanta gay and lesbian club, where five people were injured.
His attacks in total killed two people and injured more than 100.
If he is convicted, U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft would be in the position to decide if Rudolph will receive the death penalty.
