There was a strong youth presence at Saturday’s AIDS Run & Walk to benefit the AIDS Foundation of Chicago. Under beautiful skies, an estimated 6-8,000 marchers and runners representing high schools and colleges, healthcare groups and GLBT veterans, Deaf AIDS coalition and Children’s Place, among others, helped raise much-needed funds for AIDS agencies throughout the region via the AFC grants program. While a lot of politicians were listed on the honorary committee, only a few showed up for the march, including Cook County Commissioner Mike Quigley, Ald. Tom Tunney and Ald. Joe Moore. Mayor Daley’s GLBT liaison William Greaves spoke, as did Chris Brown from the Chicago Dept. of Public Health. Co-hosts were media personalities Dean Richards of WGN and Nesita Kwan of NBC-Channel 5. Chicago Spirit Brigade cheered the marchers and runners at the starting point. Photos by Tracy Baim
