Diana J. Smith, 61, a member of Chicago’s transgender community, died Sept. 26 after a five-year battle with a serious illness. A memorial service was held Oct. 11 at one of her favorite haunts, the Jeffrey Pub. She was generous to anyone in need, and was a true friend to the friendless and home to the homeless. She was a former employee of Bethany Terrace Nursing Home.
