The Chicago Chapter of American Veterans for Equal Rights, formerly the Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual Veterans of America, will host Veteran’s Day events. Keynote speaker for their 11th Annual dinner is LTC Steve Loomis, who served in the U.S. Army for nearly 20 years. He was ‘fired’ eight days before his 20-year retirement date because the military found out that he is gay.
He appealed his discharge, but the Army declined to reinstate him. He’s fighting back in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
The event is Tuesday, Nov. 11, 6:30 p.m., Ann Sather’s, 929 W. Belmont, $25, (773) 752-0058. Call for other AVER events.
