State Rep. Larry McKeon denounced the introduction of two bills Jan. 16 into the Illinois House of Representatives to amend the Illinois Constitution to define marriage as an institution between a man and woman.

‘It is both shocking and disturbing to me that any members of the Illinois legislature would introduce such unnecessary and homophobic bills and attempt to amend the Illinois Constitution to deny certain rights to a defined segment of our society,’ McKeon said. ‘Scapegoating others for votes is the lowest form of politics.” Representative McKeon also said that he expects a broad coalition will be created to fight these bills.

McKeon called on the six constitutional officers of the State of Illinois to denounce these bills and announce their total support for the effort to oppose their passage. State Comptroller Dan Hynes sent a letter to McKeon supporting his efforts.
