A celebration of the life of Chicago women’s music and culture activist Joy Rosenblatt will be held Saturday, May 8, 3 p.m. at second Unitarian Church, 656 W. Barry, (773) 549-0260. Windy City Times reported on Rosenblatt’s death last week. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to LCCP, 4753 N. Broadway, #602, Chicago, IL 60640; or to the Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival, c/o WWTMC, Box 22, Walhalla, MI 49458. Her remains will be scattered at the Michigan Fest this August. Rosenblatt died peacefully in her sleep April 15. She is survived by her partner and wife Donna Malina. She also leaves behind her mother figure, Toni Armstrong Sr.; her dear friends Toni (Janice of New Orleans) Armstrong Jr.; Sue and Pam Vranesh-Adams and their daughters; Marti Rust and Judy Thomas; her faithful furry companion of 17 years, Chollie the Cat; and many other friends.

A celebration of the life of Dan Whelen (1959-2004) will be held Sat., May 15, 3 p.m. at Summerdale U.C.C., 1700 W. Farragut (one block west of Ashland, one block north of Foster). Dan passed away and went on to eternal life March 19 in Rolla, Mo. He had many friends in Chicago who are invited to attend the service. A reception will be held after. Call Steve at (773) 259-3198.
