Gay-rights activists are encouraging a boycott of Virginia—both products made by companies in the state and tourism to the state, reports AP.
The state passed what some are calling the most damning legislation against gays—an amendment to the state’s Affirmation of Marriage Act that bans civil unions and any other legislation that would ‘bestow the privileges of marriage.’
Activists fear the legislation will be used to remove rights previously available by contract—powers of attorney, medical requests, and wills. Two men in Seattle created the www.VirginiaIsForHaters.org to spearhead the boycott effort.
