Susan Ashman

Susan Ashman, 26, is a social worker for Action for Children. As founder of Lickety Split Cheerleaders, a guerrilla-style performance group, Susan and her group have advocated sex-positive attitudes and have addressed such issues as feminism, global activism, environmentalism and trans awareness for the last two years. The group’s performances consist of spoken word, cheerleading, and dance and have been seen at Gurlesque Burlesque, the 2004 March for Women’s Lives in Washington, D.C., and at Estrojam. In 2003, the Lickety Split Cheerleaders were voted the No. 1 Activist Group in Chicago by New City, and the Best New Activist Group by Venus Magazine. Susan is also the managing editor for Chicago queer feminist ‘zine, Tuffy.

Susan moved to Chicago in 2002 after graduating from King State College in New Hampshire with an English/Women’s Studies degree. She was Co-Founder of the Feminist Collective and the V-Day Initiative at her school, as well as the organizer and leader of the first pro-choice demonstration on Kent State College campus.
