Thin Ice was in first-place with a 7-0 record heading into Sunday night’s game at the West Meadows Ice Rink in Rolling Meadows against the Spin-Offs (2-5), who were stuck in a 3-game losing streak. Thin Ice had outscored its opponents 44-15. The Chicago Gay Hockey Association [CGHA], on the other hand, had only scored 19 goals while surrendering 35 in its first seven games. But, as has become CGHA tradition, the Spin-offs stood up to the league’s top team … and pulled the upset. Rusty Fleury, Larry Zyks and Pat Mazzone each had a goal and an assist, leading the Spin-Offs to a 4-2 win.

Goalie John Adams stopped 21 of the 23 shots he faced to earn the Game Puck.
