The Banned Quilt Show, held Oct. 9 and 10 in DeKalb, Ill., was very successful. Approximately 150 people came to the show. More good news came in the form of almost $200 raised (between donations at the door and a silent auction)for the local Questioning Youth Center, which supports HIV prevention programs targeting GLBTQ youth in DeKalb.

The Banned Quilt Show was held in response to a decision by the DeKalb Quilt Guild to bar a quilt from its show; the L Word Quilt had lesbian-related terms on it that the guild felt were inappropriate. Subsequently, Diane Johns (the woman behind the banned quilt)held her own show. Quilts from other people who protested the original show were also displayed.
