Cubs Care, the charitable beneficiary of the Chicago Cubs and a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation, announced a $50,000 grant on Nov. 5 to begin funding the new Cubs Care Courts at the gym for the planned Center on Halsted, 3640 N. Halsted. The gym’s basketball center court will sport the Cubs Care logo and will be the focal point of the Center’s recreational area.
After its completion in 2006, the Center will provide recreational, cultural, and educational programs as well as social and health services to the Lakeview community. Formerly Horizons Community Services, the Midwest’s largest LGBT social service agency, the organization changed its name to the Center on Halsted. The three-story center will have performance and office spaces; a multi-purpose gym; and even a rooftop garden.
Cubs Care announced a total of $125,000 in grants to five Chicago charitable institutions, including the Center, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Lakeview Community Health Center at St. Joseph’s Hospital, the Chicago Women’s Health Center, and The Employment Project.
