After months of growing rumors, San Francisco’s golden couple is splitting up. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Mayor Gavin Newsom and his Court TV analyst wife, Kimberly Guilfoyle Newsom, announced ‘with great sadness’ the end of their three-year-old bi-coastal marriage. The announcement came after the close of business and right as California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger was delivering his State of the State speech.

Newsom made many gay magazines’ people of the year lists in 2004 for sanctioning gay and lesbian marriages in his city—a move that was reversed by the state supreme court. A judge is hearing arguments in a pair of lawsuits in which the plaintiffs are attempting to make California the only state other than Massachusetts where gays and lesbians can legally marry.
