LUNA awards, given to five productions of the annual V-Day Vagina Monologues, culled from hundreds of submissions around the world, were announced last week. The winners of the $1,000 cash donation are (in no specific order):
V-Day Chicago South-West, C.C. Carter, Artistic Director. [ The show is March 5 at DuSable Museum). V-Day Chicago South-West has shed light on a timely issue concerning women in war, and brought it to the forefront of their production by giving ‘homage to the women who are so often overlooked in media sound bites and on national coverage of war —yet make up 12% of the military, 25% of the police force and 6% of firefighters. These women who endure consistent sexual harassment and discrimination serving our country and yet rarely if ever get the recognition they deserve.’ LUNA’s spokeswoman satted: ‘I commend V-Day Chicago South-West for bringing a new face to their V-Day production and saluting the WOMEN ON THE FRONTLINES! The dedication to supporting and acknowledging the thousands of women who are underrepresented is truly unique and admirable.’
V-Day ‘New York 3’, Debbie DeLisi, Campaign Organizer.
V-Day Kansas State University, Zachary Hauser, Campaign Organizer.
V-Day Dorchester, Michele Martin, Campaign Organizer.
