The annual Human First gala to benefit Center on Halsted (formerly Horizons Community Services) presented honors to Mayor Richard M. Daley, Michael Leppen, Equality Illinois, Polk Bros. Foundation and the late Dr. David Lochman Saturday. The main focus of speeches was on the planned community center being built, with $14 million of the $20 million raised so far. The Center also announced it will name their planned building’s rooftop garden after Mayor Daley, a strong supporter of such gardens across the city. Singer Martha Wash and violinist Eugene Draw performed. Dinner co-chairs were John R. Newman and Jeff Karp, event co-chairs were Denise Foy and Kip Helverson.
