Acire Roche, 21, has been quite active with the Center on Halsted, having served on its youth leadership council for six years. She also facilitated HIV, queer, sexual orientation, body image, improv and safe-sex groups for LGBTQ youth and also spoke at an anti-violence candlelight vigil. In addition, she helped write a grant for the Center on Halsted’s young women’s night. (The center was awarded $3,500 as a result.) Right now, she is helping build the young women’s anthology, which is almost completed. Roche is also involved in GLSEN Chicago as the adult co-chair of the organization’s youth committee.
DID YOU KNOW? Acire was featured in a recent Chicago Tribune Red Eye article about growing up gay in America. Through the article, she basically came out to her family.
