Tania Unzueta, 21, is the managing producer of Homofrecuencia, the first Spanish-language radio show in the country that addresses issues concerning LGBT Latino youth. In March, she began a radio program called Nuestras Letras / Words, which documents community stories regarding immigration, race, queerness, disability, body image, and other topics. In addition, she was the main organizer of Noche de Arco Iris: Queer Prom 2005, held May 27 at the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum. Tania is also working for La Raza newspaper as a freelancer and the Web site editor. Even though homophobia exists even within the publication office, she is developing ways to combat it.

In the past, Tania has been active with the Chicago Dyke March as well as the Center for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. Last April, she was the main organizer for the conference on reproductive rights at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She also has been a spokesperson for the undocumented student movement.

DID YOU KNOW? As even more evidence of her smarts and dedication, Tania graduated with honors from UIC last May. Also, she likes to ride, build and repair road bikes.
