Sure, underneath all the glitter and glitz and feathers and fur and waving leaves of grass, The Lion King is just an ordinary young-boy-comes-of-age story in animal drag. But what glitter and glitz and grass and what a fine fuss of feathers and fur! Julie Taymor’s inspired designs and direction, Garth Fagin’s extraordinary choreography and the addition of genuine African music to Elton John’s handful of songs make The Lion King a thrilling example of Broadway genius, and not to be missed. The return visit of The Lion King at the Cadillac Palace Theatre ends Sept. 4. (312) 902-1400; $21-$85.
