On Friday, Nov. 11, at 9:30 a.m. the Chicago Chapter of American Veterans for Equal Rights (AVER) will participate in the dedication of the new Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Wabash and Wacker along the Chicago River.

AVER will place its red, white and blue wreath with the pink triangle.

Later that day, at 6:30 p.m., the chapter will hold its 13th Annual ‘With Liberty and Justice for All’ Veterans Day Dinner at Ann Sather Restaurant, 929 W. Belmont. U.S. Army Specialist Jeff Howe will serve as guest speaker. Howe is a native of the Chicagoland area who was outed while serving on his second tour of duty in Iraq; he was immediately removed from the military July 4.

The cost of the event is $25.

On Nov. 12 at 10 a.m., there will be a remembrance ceremony at the grave of Allen Schindler in Steger, Ill. Mrs. Dorothy Hadjys-Holman, Schindler’s mother, will participate.
