A University of California research center released data showing that the military has fired 244 medical specialists under the ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy, according to a release from the Center for the Sutdy of Sexual Minorities in the Military (CSSMM).
The figures, which cover 1994 through 2003—the policy’s first 10 years—were obtained from the Pentagon by CSSMM, with the help of U.S. Rep. Marty Meehan, D-Mass. In a statement, Sharra E. Greer of Servicemembers Legal Defense Network said that ”don’t ask, don’t tell’ has cost our nation the talents of too many patriotic Americans.’
