Korrie Bayer, featured recently in Windy City Times, scored the first true win of her boxing career April 5 with a second-round TKO (technical knockout) of Christine Deleon in the finals of the annual Chicago Golden Gloves, held at St. Andrews Gym, 1658 W. Addison.

Her career record is now 2-1, though her only other win was by default as there were no females in her weight class.

‘The fight was awesome,’ said Bayer, 28, a lesbian who lives on Chicago’s West Side. ‘The fight really was a lot of fun.’

Bayer staggered Deleon numerous times in the first round, forcing two standing eight-counts. The fight was stopped about 20 seconds in the second round.

‘My coaches just kept telling me to keep hitting her hard, so that’s what I did; that was my gameplan. And it worked,’ Bayer said. ‘The win was very gratifying, especially because, in my only other fight, I lost.’
