Chicago organizers of the 2006 Gay Games announced that they now have more than 10,000 participants from over 45 countries committed to attending the Gay Games VII, which will take place July 15-22.

Brian McGuinness, executive director of the Games, said in a statement that ‘ [w] ith just 100 days to go… our registration rates remain ahead of expectations with 12,000 participating athletes and artists expected to march into the opening ceremony at Chicago’s Soldier Field.’ Gay Games ‘Late Registration’ began April 16, with fees assessed for those who register now.

Regarding the sports themselves, badminton, soccer and ice hockey are nearly full while golf and sailing already are. The numbers of tennis, swimming, volleyball and basketball registrants are running significantly ahead of projections.
