An Indiana appeals court has decided that unmarried couples—same-sex ones—can jointly adopt children, according to Gay.com.
In a 2-1 decision, the Indiana Court of Appeals overturned Morgan Circuit Court Judge Matthew Hanson’s ruling that would have denied the adoption of an infant girl by Becki Hamilton and Kim Brennan, the Associated Press reported.
Judges Nancy H. Vaidik and John G. Baker found that ‘there is nothing in Indiana Code…that limits’ the couple from adopting.
The ruling places Indiana among approximately 25 states that allow joint adoptions by unmarried couples.
