The recent passing of influential gay leader and leatherman Thom Dombkowski continues to affect myriad individuals and organizations, as many offer statements and tributes.

The International Mr. Leather Web site, www.imrl.com, noted that ‘ [t] he IML Family is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Judge Emeritus, Thom Dombkowski. Thom had long been on the scene in Chicago and has contributed much to the city and GLBT and leather community he loved so much…. For some, we’ve lost a family member… but for all of us… we’ve lost a friend.’

In addition, the Chicago Commission on Human Relations issued a release. Bill Greaves, on behalf of the commission and its Advisory Council on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues, emphasized ‘deep sadness and regret [regarding] the death of Thom Dombkowski.’

The release also noted Dombkowski’s achievements, such as co-founding the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame, and concludes by saying that ‘Thom is remembered for being adept at focusing on what was important for the LGBT communities and having an unusual ability to work with everyone for the betterment of those communities. His skills, compassion, and good humor will be greatly missed.’

At least one memorial service is being planned for Dombkowski. Details will be released as they become available.
