Comedian Margaret Cho and famed singer Cyndi Lauper (‘Time After Time,’ ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’) will participate in the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2006 Chicago Gay Games, respectively.
Cho has been confirmed to join a slate of over 60 internationally known celebrities set to participate in the ceremonies. The ceremony will take place in the 60,000-seat Soldier Field, the home of the Chicago Bears.
‘How could I not participate in an event where 60,000 gay and lesbian-friendly people will fill an entire American football stadium? The irony alone is fantastic,’ Cho said in a statement.
‘I feel like this is becoming sort of a tradition for me since I performed last time the Gay Games were in the States, in New York City in 1994,’ Lauper said in a separate statement. ‘I am thrilled to be a part of the 2006 Gay Games in Chicago.’
The Games are expected to host 12,000 participants from approximately 70 countries. Tickets to the events are available at www.gaygames.org.
