Angel Nash, 23, is an example of the indomitability of the human spirit. She has been mistreated and abused for most of her life, and even suffered an assault at age five. At 15, Angel became pregnant and was told she needed to leave her then-current foster home prior to the birth of her baby. She even is considered legally blind because of the abuse she received in one foster home.
However, at age 17, Angel received a break when she was referred to the Chicago social service agency that currently employs her: UCAN (Uhlich Children’s Advantage Network). She now works there as a youth leadership specialist and has even created Project HOPE (Helping Other People Excel), which helps UCAN clientele with essential resources regarding housing, education/vocation and employment.
Angel is also heavily involved in other activities. In representing the LGBTQ population on the Diversity Committee, she is also assisting with coming up with programs regarding the needs the LGBTQ community. She also is a member of projects such as the National Campaign To Prevent Teen Pregnancy Among Youth In Foster Care and has spoken at various workshops about an array of topics.
DID YOU KNOW? Angel attends Daley College and plans to obtain her B.A. in the social work. She is now working on her autobiography and she also writes poetry.
