After successful outreach and education efforts at the Gay Games and the Pride Parade, Hep Team Chicago plans to appear at the next big gay-inclusive event: Northalsted Market Days, scheduled for Aug. 5-6 in Lakeview.
The team plans to vaccinate hundreds at Northalsted Market Days by offering free hepatitis A and hepatitis B shots. The two strains of hepatitis, also referred to as vaccine-preventable hepatitis, are serious liver diseases more prevalent among MSM (men who have sex with men) than among the general population.
Hep Team Chicago, in partnership with agencies throughout Chicago including the Chicago Department of Public Health, Howard Brown Health Center and Center on Halsted, will be promoting hepatitis vaccination throughout the summer. The outreach program is supported with a Web site (www.hepteamchicago.com); posters, brochures and palm cards; and a team of outreach workers.
