Marking the 25th anniversary of the seminal event, Chicago Filmmakers unveils Reeling—the world’s second oldest LGBT film festival—on Nov. 2-12.
The festival will take place at Landmark’s Century Centre Cinema, 2828 N. Clark; Film Row Cinema at Columbia College, 1104 S. Wabash; and Chicago Filmmakers, 5243 N. Clark.
Opening night will once again be at the historic Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport. Reeling will present what it bills the world’s first-ever gay sequel, Eating Out 2: Sloppy Seconds. The movie features the talent of director Phillip Bartel and actor Jim Verraros (of TV’s American Idol). Following the screening, a celebration will take place at Architectural Artifacts, 4325 N. Ravenswood.
Reeling will also include a diverse range of new dramatic narratives, romantic comedies, documentaries, shorts and animation. Among the items to be shown are Derek Jarman: My Life as Art, Filthy Gorgeous (a documentary that follows the alternative drag show Trannyshack), the horror-comedy flick Creatures from the Pink Lagoon and the Spanish film 20 Centimeters (to be shown on closing night, Nov. 11).
On Nov. 12 at 8 p.m., a celebration of the avant-garde filmic roots of the festival will take place with a vintage-style party at Andersonville’s Brown Elephant resale store, 5228 N. Clark. Admission is $20 ($18 for Chicago Filmmakers members).
