Nearly 100 guests gathered at Open Studio Project on Nov. 3 to join Better Existence with HIV (BEHIV) at its first annual Art Therapy benefit and exhibition. The event was held at held at Open Studio Project, a venue for artists in the North Shore located at 903 Sherman Ave., Evanston.

More than $12,000 was raised at the event, which will allow BEHIV to continue this important program. A dozen pieces of original artwork, created by clients in the program, were purchased by guests.

BEHIV’s Art Therapy program has been in existence for seven years, providing a social network to people who may not have one. It is open to anyone willing to use art to help express difficult and complicated feelings. In the past, Art Therapy has been funded by Ryan White Title I, but the program has been eliminated as a funding priority.
