The AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) and the Art Institute of Chicago will jointly commemorate World AIDS Day, Dec. 1, with a series of programs inspired by some of the works in the photographic exhibition So the Story Goes. The events will take place Nov. 27-Dec. 1 at the institute, 111 S. Michigan.
Each day at noon on Nov. 27-30, the institute will present a speaker who has been personally or professionally affected by HIV/AIDS. On Dec. 1, the speakers—activist Keith Green, Chicago Recovery Alliance Medical Director Dr. Sarz Maxwell, minister/activist Joann Montes and photographer Craig Bender—will assemble for a panel discussion that will be moderated by AFC’s Jim Pickett.
So the Story Goes explores the work of five photographers—Tina Barney, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Nan Goldin, Sally Mann and Larry Sultan—who employ daily experiences to inspire them. Call 312-443-3680.
