44th Ward Ald. Tom Tunney presented a $350,000 check Nov. 27 from the City of Chicago to Center on Halsted for its capital campaign. Robbin Burr, executive director, received the check along with Center on Halsted Board Chairman Robert Kohl and Deputy Executive Director Modesto ‘Tico’ Valle. The city funds are allocated at the discretion of aldermanic offices.
In related news, Valle received honors in Springfield at the 15th Annual HIV/STD Conference held in late October. He was presented with the ‘Lending Your Voice’ award for outstanding work in advocating for equitable HIV/AIDS policies within communities and among elected officials. The award was presented by the Illinois Department of Public Health at a ceremony attended by hundreds of HIV/STD practitioners and public health officials.
