As a way to honor Illinois’ military men and women, State Sen. Dan Rutherford, R-Pontiac, is inviting Illinois residents to submit original stories, letters, vignettes and photos from any soldier who is serving overseas or away from home.
Rutherford said that the messages and photographs can be sent to him at DanRutherford@DanRutherford.com. He will then post them on his Web site at www.DanRutherford.com.
The senator also invites the public to visit the Web site and read of the experiences shared by the soldiers and view their photos.
When asked by Windy City Times about LGBT soldiers responding, Rutherford replied, ‘Sexual preference is really not the issue. The effort is about giving recognition to the men and women of the military that have given so much.’
