Because of a grant from the Illinois Department of Public Health, Haymarket Center is expanding its New Focus treatment initiative to work with users of crystal meth. The expansion is centered on Haymarket’s Uptown facility at 4753 N. Broadway.
According to a press release, the $100,000 grant was obtained with the help of recently retired State Representative Larry McKeon, whose district included the Uptown area. This expansion will add 4,500 hours of outpatient substance abuse treatment group hours. Additional psychological and toxicology screenings also will be provided through this increase in program.
Haymarket Center brought its crystal meth program to Uptown three years ago. It was based on the program begun for crystal meth users at Haymarket’s primary facility in the West Loop.
