Dr. Henry (Hank) A. Goldstein, a longtime friend to many; a member of Congregation Or Chadash; and a member and supporter of many local organizations in Chicago and Hawaii, died Feb. 13 at his home at the Kauai Waterfall Bed and Breakfast in Hawaii.
Goldstein graduated locally from Steinmetz High School, where he sang in the school’s alumni choir. After retiring from his medical practice at Diversey Medical Clinic in Chicago, Hank moved to Kauai, Hawaii in 1996, where he was able to make his longtime dream of running a bed-and-breakfast come true.
Goldstein also had a great love for theater, even going so far as to travel as far as London to see eleven plays in five days. His passion for collecting art could be seen in every room of his home.
He will be returned to Chicago, where he will be buried in the family plot next to his parents in Rosemont Park Cemetery, 6758 W. Addison. Services took place last week; Rabbi Larry Edwards of Congregation Or Chadash officiated.
Goldstein is survived by his brother, Ray Goldstein of New Zealand; and his many cousins. Also remembering him are his aunts, Marion Shanok, recently of Chicago and now residing in Voorhess, N.J.; and Eunice Mermelstein of Memphis, Tenn. He was especially fond of his nephew, Jason (Vicki) Goldstein and his children; his niece, Rachel (David) Richards and her children; and his niece, Lina Goldstein.
Donations in his memory can be sent to Congregation Or Chadash, c/o Congregation Emanuel, 5959 N. Sheridan Road, Chicago, IL 60660.
