On Feb. 21, HBO, in partnership with AIDS Foundation of Chicago, Howard Brown Health Center and Southside Help Center, hosted an invitation-only reception and screening of the television film Life Support. The event took place at Columbia College’s Conaway Center, 1104 S. Wabash.
The reception/screening came at the end of an entire day filled with AIDS awareness and education activities at the college.
Life Support uses both actors and non-actors (the latter from the HIV/AIDS community) to tell the story of HIV-positive Ana Wallace (played by Queen Latifah), a former drug addict who eventually works for Life Support, an AIDS outreach group. Ana’s character is based on Andrea Williams, the sister of Nelson George, writer and director of the movie. Life Support will debut March 10 on HBO.
Among those attending the screening were Shelby Stone, one of the film’s producers, and Williams.
