Chicago House & Social Service Agency has announced the launch of Project Awake, a new program with the goal of educating people about HIV/AIDS.

Lauren Keppel, a case manager for the organization, is heading the initiative. ‘The program is targeted to those who are not typically at risk for AIDS/HIV and have little or no knowledge of the disease,’ she said in a press release. ‘We hope to reach people who have a desire to make positive changes in the world, specifically those who want to see equality in all aspects of society.’

In Project Awake, experts will speak with audiences about a variety of HIV/AIDS-related subjects, including transmission and physiology. The program will include a question-and-answer session as well as an interactive discussion about why stigma and discrimination are still a part of HIV/AIDS.
