Lee Bohen, a board member of Better Existence with HIV (BEHIV), recently received the Brillianteen William E. Harper Award from The McGaw YMCA.

Bohen, who has been HIV-positive herself for over two decades, was recognized for her leadership and service to youth in Evanston through her HIV prevention education volunteer work, which has provided resources to thousands of students in Evanston (and other Chicago-area) schools and community groups.

As part of BEHIV’s Education Outreach program, Bohen assists the outreach coordinator to conduct presentations to youth about various aspects of HIV, from transmission to treatment. These presentations give youth a venue to discuss topics they may not be able to talk about elsewhere.
