Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the legendary soul label Stax Records, the Black Ensemble Theater Company, located at 4520 N. Beacon, is running Memphis Soul (The Story of Stax Records), written by David Barr III and produced and directed by Jackie Taylor.
Memphis Soul pays tribute to the great music of the Stax era by featuring the label’s biggest hits, including Hold On, I’m Coming (by Sam and Dave), Gee Wiz (Carla Thomas), Shaft (Isaac Hayes) and I’ll Take You There (The Staple Singers).
