P.O.V. (Point of View) will present the documentary Standing Silent Nation, by Suree Towfighnia and Courtney Hermann, on PBS on July 3. (Check local listings for the exact time.)
This is the first feature documentary for Hermann, a lesbian filmmaker who lives in Portland, Ore., and is an instructor in the digital film and video department at the Art Institute of Portland. Hermann earned a master of fine arts degree in film and video production from Columbia College, where she and Towfighnia worked as co-technical coordinators of the Michael Rabiger Center for Documentary Film.
Standing Silent Nation documents the fight of a Native American family to create a future for itself. Among the themes discussed are tribal sovereignty, governmental interference and economic rights.
