A memorial was held July 15 for the Rev. Thom Ford at the church founded by the Rev. Deborah Lake and John Ademola, a former Catholic priest. The church is located at 1352 S. Union. Lake told Windy City Times that ‘ [m] any of his congregation and friends attended, and shared powerful memories.’

Ford, a former pastor at the Church of the Open Door who often served as a sign-language interpreter at events, died of a heart attack on June 30.

After the service, there was a repast held at the home of longtime friend Max Smith.
