The Rainbow Flag Corps, part of the Coalition of Rainbow Alliances (CORAL), is set to participate in the opening-night festivities of the 155th annual Illinois State Fair. The fair will take place Aug. 10-19 in Springfield.
The corps will again have a float in the fair’s Twilight Parade. In a press release, organization coordinator Mary Mays said, ‘We were there last year for the first time, and we got an overwhelmingly positive response. Beyond that, our appearance put a face on the community that produced last year’s sweepstakes winner.’
CORAL is a not-for-profit volunteer group based in Springfield that facilitates networking for central Illinois LGBT communities as well as their families, friends and allies. CORAL sponsors fundraising, social and education events to maintain services.
Among the musicians slated to perform are Martina McBride, Gretchen Wilson and Daughtry.
