The New York City medical examiner’s office said Feb. 6 that actor Heath Ledger—star of such movies as Brokeback Mountain and Monster’s Ball—died of an accidental drug overdose.
According to a statement, ‘Mr. Heath Ledger died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam, and doxylamine.’ Oxycodone and hydrocodone and oxycodone are painkillers; diazepam is usually sold under the brand name Valium; and alprazolam is sold under various names, including Xanax. Temazepam and doxylamine are sleeping medications.
Ledger died Jan. 22 in a Manhattan apartment. He was 28.
