The Gay and Lesbian Leadership Council of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) hosted a reception on Wed., Feb. 13, at the Ann Sather Restaurant, 909 W. Belmont, to benefit the national party and boost support for Democratic leadership. DNC chairman and former presidential candidate Governor Howard Dean and Andrew Tobias, DNC’s openly gay treasurer (in the lower left photo), headlined the event.

During a brief address to the intimate crowd, Dean made sharp remarks against the leading Republican candidate for the 2008 presidential bid, John McCain, while stating that he would be happy to support Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton.

‘There is extraordinary change going on in this country,’ Dean added concerning the surprising voter turnout in this year’s primaries. The Democratic chairman believes that more young people are inspired to vote in this election because Obama and Clinton show diversity, an attractive political trait in the under-thirty demographic.
