Black pride had a twist for Chicago’s African-American LGBT community this year, because, in a rare development, there were two pride celebrations over the Fourth of July weekend. (Apparently, this also happened several years ago.) Recent disputes led to a group of individuals leaving Windy City Black Pride (WCBP) to form Chicago Windy City Black Pride (CWCBP). Among CWCBP’s activities were a poetry slam, a media reception, an LGBT author reception and its official celebration at South Shore Cultural Center. Not to be outdone, WCBP held a VIP reception, forums, multiple parties and a fashion benefit as well as other events. Photos by Andrew Davis and Emmanuel Garcia
