Chicago House goes &#40emerald&#41 green

The 2008 Chicago House World Tour Gala once again inspired hundreds of supporters to take a trip to a land where giving was done in creative formal attire. The black-tie affair is a major source of funding for Chicago House’s AIDS Housing and Supportive Services. The annual event”entitled “Gala OZ “08” and themed after The Wizard of Oz”was held Sept. 27 on the seventh floor of the State Street Macy’s. Dorothy, in ruby-red slippers, greeted guests as they arrived. Touches of emerald green could be seen on cummerbunds, bowties, and jewelry.

Cook County Commissioner Mike Quigley, who was awarded the 2008 Public Service Award, spoke about how future generations will view the inequality experienced by the LGBT community: “They’ll wonder what all the fuss is about, what all the animosity was about, and why there were any restrictions on letting people love whoever they want.” Photos and text by Emmanuel Garcia.
