In a unique development, Miss California runner-up Tami Farrell has been named the new “Beauty of California ambassador” by Miss California USA pageant officials, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Shanna Moakler, co-executive director of the Miss California USA pageant, stated that current Miss California Carrie Prejean “entered the contest under false pretense. Accepting the title comes with the responsibility to represent everyone in her state, not just those who share her opinion.”

Prejean sparked controversy after stating her anti-same-sex-marriage position during the Miss USA pageant. She finished second.

Since then, Prejean has stayed in the news for everything from her breast implants to semi-nude photos, according to the New York Daily News. Donald Trump, head of the Miss USA pageant, announced May 12 that Prejean would retain her crown, the Los Angeles Times reported.
