Close to a thousand people rallied outside Chicago’s Center on Halsted May 26 in protest of the California Supreme Court’s 6-1 upholding of Prop 8, a voter referendum passed Nov. 4 which bans same-sex marriages in that state. The court did unanimously vote to allow the 18,000 already-wed gay and lesbian couples to remain legally married.

After several speeches, the skies opened up to lightning, thunder and rain just as the protesters kicked off their march south on Halsted.

Chicago’s demo was among more than 100 around the country coordinated in part by www.DayOfDecision.org. In San Francisco, reportedly more than 100 people were arrested.
