FROM A PRESS RELEASE

First Unitarian Church of Chicago

Following this Sunday’s service, “Coming Out: Struggle to Celebration,” Rev. Dr. Nina Grey will lead the First Unitarian Church in Hyde Park as they gather outside the church to honor their denomination’s support for gay marriage. Support for gay marriage is part of the Unitarian Universalist Association’s initiative, Standing on the Side of Love. The Association isjoining an Oct. 11 national rally in Washington, DC to support gay marriage and the civil rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. Denominational officials are encouraging congregations across the nation to join in this witness for love and justice. Standing on the Side of Love, hosted by the Unitarian Universalist Association, invites all people to add their voices. In addition to the UUA’s historical support for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, the denomination seeks justice for undocumented immigrants and any groups who are oppressed because of identity.

Rainbow Interweave, the First Unitarian group for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning people and their allies, will present the morning service at 10 a.m. and lead the congregation outside at 11:15 for the celebration honoring gay marriage. All are invited. First Unitarian Church is located at 5650 S. Woodlawn Ave., Chicago, IL. For further information, see the website: www.standingonthesideoflove.org, or call Rev. Nina Grey at 773-324-4100, ext. 16.
